Stop Dog From Jumping Up on People
By: Rex Krisinsky
Isn't it a frustrating problem? You get home from work and the first thing your dog does is jump on you. Sure, you know he does it with good intentions but when you have company and he starts doing it to your friends and family, you start to realize this is a problem that needs fixing.
So, how do you stop your dog from jumping up at the wrong time?
Well, it's easier than you think and this article will show you exactly how to do it.
When your dog jumps up, depending on its size, grab its paws and sternly say the command "No. Off". Your dog's paws are a very sensitive part of his body. Although this exercise won't hurt your dog, it will make him feel vulnerable and uncomfortable. Your dog will instinctually pull away and go back down onto the ground.
The key to this technique is consistency. Make sure you say "No" and "Off" at every occasion to stop dog from jumping. Your consistency with the word "No" during your other obedience training sessions will tell him that this is inappropriate behavior. Also, your use of the command "Off" will let him know that this command means to "get down".
You don't want to use the command "Down" when trying to stop dog from jumping because "Down" may be used for other purposes like making him lay down.
Training your dog to stop jumping up on people is just one way to instill the submissive behavior that he truly wants to learn. Continue your obedience training everyday to obtain the desired results you're looking for.
