10 Tips For Taking The Family Dog On A Vacation
By: Darren Lintern
In order to have an enjoyable and comfortable time when travelling with your pet, it's often wise to prepare things ahead of time. You will then be ready in the event of an unpredictable or emergency situation that might crop up. So bear in mind the following ten steps and make certain that you have them all to hand and ready prior to going on that road trip with the family dog.
1. A dog den or crate with a small blanket for your pet's comfort and safety, or install a seatbelt harness if you opt for her to stay on the seat.
2. An adequate supply of dog feed to last the entire journey. Be sure to take plenty of extra food, typically if your pet is a fussy eater.
3. At least two to three gallons of additional water for your pooch. If you're visiting a different state, keep in mind that any water there might be different to the water you pet is accustomed too. As your dog might be sensitive to the difference in water, this could cause her to be sick, make certain to carry adequate water to last for the full journey.
4. A water bowl, ideally one that is deep enough to avoid spilling so that it may be used inside a vehicle that's moving. An alternate to this is to instruct your doggy on how to drink out of a bottle of water.
5. A pet first-aid kit that's specifically designed for dogs.
6. A buckle collar with a legible and clear ID tag as well as a license and tag that shows her up-dated vaccination for the rabies jab. This tag ought to be worn all the time.
7. At least two to four chew toys.
8. Any medication or vitamins that she is presently taking such as flea control or heartworm pills.
9. Plastic bags and paper towels to wipe up after her potty stops.
10. Large blankets and thick towels in case she decides to leap into a stream or muddy water when you stop for occasional breaks.
