Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever is a British dog, imported from Newfoundland in the 19th century. It has undergone a remarkable change, being taught by the English to retrieve game as successfully on land as it once caught fish in the cold waters of its homeland. It is extremely popular in the United States. Stocky and endearingly clumsy, with a wadding gait, the labrador is a dog which looks strong, hardy and pugnacious. It has many skills: as a gun dog (being as good over water as on dry land), as an excellent sniffer dog for drugs, as a seeing-eye dog for the blind and a wonderful, faithful pet which loves family life.
Labrador can be from 54-57cm (20-21 inches) in height and 25-30kg (55-66 pounds) in weight. The coat is short, thick, straight and coarse. May be cream, black, chocolate or yellow in color, but always single colored.
